8-9 Months

I went to check on Mia while she was taking a nap and as I watched her sleep the tears started rolling down my cheeks. Maybe I am just an over-emotional mom today, but I am completely in awe of how much love there is in this world to hold onto and, more importantly, to give and share with others. Being a mom gives me joy that I never thought possible. It’s not always perfect and sometimes it’s downright hard, but there is not a day that goes by without numerous moments of pure joy.

My husband and I were reminiscing about our days before we had children. Even though we recalled the most amazing memories of how we enjoyed movie nights, went on exciting adventures and even travelled the world, we have never been happier than we are now. It seems insane that we would readily exchange the freedom of our carefree, spontaneous and adventurous days for sleepless nights and dirty nappies, but I will say it again – I have never been happier in my entire life.

Watching my kids as they play outside brings a smile to my face. Janno has turned on the sprinklers and he is finding great amusement in blocking the spout of the sprinkler, then waiting until his sister gets close enough before he lets loose and runs off. Poor Mia, drenched and crying hysterically, is trying her best to get away from the water as fast as her uncoordinated crawl will allow her. Minutes later, she is sitting on Janno’s lap having a delightful baby-babble conversation about who knows what!

Until I had children, I could not comprehend the amount of love that can flow through the human heart. It made me realise how incredible the love of God must be for me, for I am His child and He loves me with His everlasting, perfect love. I know that nothing will make me love my children less, in fact, my love for them grows daily. Today I am happy, content and immensely grateful for everlasting love.

MommaMia Tip: Make a point of writing down the memorable moments you have with your family. I write a letter to my kids once a month and it gives me great pleasure to know that one day in the future they will have the privilege to read just how much I enjoyed being their mom.
